FOBANA SCHOLARSHIP 2023-2024

INVITATION TO APPLICANTS
FOBANA Scholarship Honoring Excellence: Celebrating academic excellence with a one-time monetary gift and a certificate of achievement in recognition of dedication and accomplishments of the outstanding students of our community. This token of appreciation aims to inspire the young minds to continue striving for excellence in their educational pursuits.
The criteria that applicants must fulfill are as follows:
- The FOBANA’s policy is to hold an essay competition in the Host City where the convention is being held in that year. For FOBANA 2024, the applicant (a) must be residing in the Washington Metro area, and (b) was born in the U.S. of Bangladeshi ancestry or a Bangladeshi-born with legal status in US.
- 2023 graduate from High school with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 –4.0.
- Must demonstrate community involvement such as but not limited to community involvement pertaining to the Bangladeshi American community (ex. volunteering for a Bangladeshi organization/association in any capacity), attending Bangla school, taking courses, or writing a paper on Bangladesh in high school.
- Complete the Application Form and attach all the necessary information as requested in the application form.
- Write 1000 words essay on the “Building Bridges: Bangladeshi American Younger Generations Confronting Challenges and Seeking Solutions”.
- An independent panel will be chosen to score the essays.
- All completed forms and required materials must be received on or before July 30, 2024.
- The FOBANA Scholarship Committee together with FOBANA Executive Committee will decide on the recipients of the scholarships.
- The Scholarships will be presented during the FOBANA Convention, August 30 – September 01, 2024 at Crystal Gateway Marriott, Arlington, Virginia.

In addition to the completed form, please include the following details so that proper assessment can be made to select the right candidate for the awards:
- Write a 500 words essay about yourself in which you will highlight your experience or contribution to the Bangladeshi American community by volunteering for a Bangladeshi organization/association in any capacity), attending Bangla school, taking courses, or writing a paper on Bangladesh in high school, your accomplishments and goals relating to your heritage where you stand in pursuit of your educational goals. If this requirement is lacking, the applicant can provide 20 hours of voluntary work for FOBANA 2024 Host Committee before July 30, 2024, as a substitute to fulfill this criterion (please note: number of maximum words must be adhered to).
- An official copy of your transcript, showing GPA and class rank Letters/certificates from Community organizations you are/were involved with.
- A color photo of yourself (.jpeg, .png with at least 1MB size).
